Prof. Tibor Kurtán from University of Debrecen, Hungary, visited South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) on 26th Sep upon invitation of Prof. Changsheng Zhang. Prof. Tibor Kurtán gave a lecture entitled “Stereochemical Study of Natural Products by Circular Dichroism”, which was hosted by Prof. Changsheng Zhang. More than 60 faculties and students attended the lecture.

Prof. Tibor Kurtán has been engaged inapplication of chiroptical spectroscopy for stereochemical studies of isolated and synthetic organic compounds. In the presentaion, Prof. Tibor Kurtán introduced the application of CD technologies for the stereochemical analyses of natural products, especially for the determination of absolute configuration of marine natural products by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) technique. Moreover, he illustrated the unique function of Solid-state TDDFT CD technology in stereochemical studies. His speech inspired warm discussions between Prof. Tibor Kurtán and the attendees.

The visit of Prof. Tibor Kurtán contributed to development of further international cooperation in the field of resolving stereochemistry of marine natural products.
