PORSEC2008- The Ninth Biennial Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference, hosted by the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the International Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference Association (PORSEC), has released the second announcement-Call for Abstract and Registration in January, 2008. PORSEC2008 is the ninth Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference with its overall theme Oceanic Manifestation of Global Changes. The Honorable Chairman is Former Minister of Ministry of Science & Technology of China, Mr Guanhua Xu. Prof. Danling Tang and Prof. Kristina B. Katsaros are the General Chairmen. The chairmen, committee members and the conveners are from institutes and the like teaching organizations of more than twenty different countries (regions). Qingxi Tong, W. Timothy Liu and Frank Muller-Karger are Chairmen of the Scientific Steering Committee, Antony K. Liu and Vyacheslav B. Lobanov are Chairmen of the Program Committee, Jim Gower, A.P.Cracknell and Gad Levy are Chairmen of the Publication Committee, Ying Wang and N. Ramaiah chairmen of the Poster Session Committee, Delu Pan, Ping Shi and Dongxiao Wang are Chairmen of the Local Organizing Committee. Prof. Danling Tang is the Executive Chairman of the PORSEC2008.
Now, PORSEC2008 is calling for and receiving abstracts from all over the world, the deadline of which is 15th, July, 2008. International Journal of Remote Sensing (SCI) has agreed to publish selected PORSEC2008 papers. And some other selected PORSEC2008 papers will also be published in a key national publication-- Acta Oceanologica Sinica (SCIE) in China.
Besides, PORSEC2008 is planning to organize tutorial courses that will be open a week ahead of the conference for young scholars and students from all over the world which will definitely benefit them. Welcome young scholars and students to participate in these tutorial courses.
So far the preparation work of PORSEC2008 is progressing smoothly. The Zero Announcement was released in December, 2006. Afterwards the homepage of PORSEC2008 was established in March, 2007. The first announcement-Call for Sessions and Conveners was released in April, 2007. An informal meeting regarding issues of the PORSEC2008 preparation work was held in Vladivostok, Russia in September, 2007. PORSEC President Kristina B. Katsaros and PORSEC Treasurer W. Timothy Liu visited China in regard to the PORSEC2008 issues in November, 2007. The second announcement has been released in January, 2008, calling for registration and abstracts.
