RSMEE and the agreement signed by RSMEE and Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
The opening ceremony of Research Center of Remote Sensing on Marine Ecology & Environment (RSMEE), LED, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was held on March 18th, 2008. In the meantime, the Agreement on Academic Exchange Between Research Center of Remote Sensing on Marine Ecology & Environment (RSMEE) and Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was signed by the representatives of both sides.
The invited experts and officers present were the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and renowned expert of Remoting Sensing, Prof. Delu Pan, director of the National Remote Sensing Center of China, Prof. Guocheng Zhang, director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, CUHK, Prof. Hui Lin and the section chief of the National Remote Sensing Center of China, Prof. Jiahong Li. Research Scientists of RSMEE Prof. Danling Tang, Prof. Haigang Zhan, Prof. Chuqun Chen, Prof. Wenxi Cao, Dr. Dingtian Yang, other colleagues of RSMEE, and the graduate students were also present at the ceremony.
The ceremony was presided over by the deputy director of SCSIO, Prof. Guanghao Chen. First, Prof. Danling Tang introduced the invited guests, the officers attended of SCSIO and the colleagues of RSMEE. And then Prof. Guanghao Chen gave an opening speech presenting the profound significance of the establishing of RSMEE, giving his heartfelt congratulations and welcoming the communication, collaboration and joint researches from experts of remote sensing outside SCSIO at home and abroad.
At the same time, the Agreement on Academic Exchange Between RSMEE, SCSIO and Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, CUHK was signed by Prof. Danling Tang and Prof. Hui Lin from both sides respectively. It has been the first friendly cooperation agreement signed since RSMEE was founded. There has already been a solid cooperative foundation and frequent communication between both sides. The Canton-Hongkong cooperative project jointly carried out by the both sides has just passed the midterm examination.
Both Prof. Delu Pan and Prof. Guocheng Zhang gave their heartfelt congratulations to the foundation of RSMEE and the cooperation between RSMEE and CUHK. They encouraged the members of the newly born RSMEE to actively learn and progress. And they also discussed the future planning and development of RSMEE. Prof. Hui Lin from CUHK felicitated the founding of RSMEE as well and gave a presentation of the future cooperation plan with RSMEE in detail.
At last, Prof. Danling Tang retailed the congratulations to the founding of RSMEE from the former Director of SCSIO, Prof. Ping Shi, and expressed her gratitude to people from all societies for their support to the founding and development of RSMEE.
RSMEE consists of the main scientific research power of SCSIO, including the recipients of awards of the “Hundred Talents Program” and the “National Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists”. RSMEE is a large platform for the scientists conducting their scientific research concerning ocean optical buoy, bio-optical algorithms, and multi-sensor remote sensing data application, etc. Constructing this platform can not only benefit the discipline of ocean remote sensing, but also provide important technical support and data guarantee for the traditionally advantaged disciplines of SCSIO—ocean environmental dynamics, ocean geology and oil-gas exploration, ocean environment monitoring, etc. RSMEE will also be a very good platform for ocean observation and investigation for the South China and even for the whole country. It is foreseeable that as the founding of RSMEE, the development of remote sensing sciences of SCSIO will heading for the golden age.
In the intervals of the ceremony, deputy directors, Prof. Si Zhang and Prof. Liangmin Huang met with Prof. Delu Pan and the other invited guests in person. The two directors also expressed their congratulations to the opening ceremony and the contracted cooperation between RSMEE and CUHK. After the activities in the morning were done, the experts of remote sensing participated and gave excellent presentations in the Fourth Workshop of Remote Sensing on Marine Ecology & Environment.
