The 6th World Chinese Symposium for the Crustacean Aquaculture was successfully held in Guangzhou

  On 9th-12th December, the 6th World Chinese Symposium for the Crustacean Aquaculture was successfully held in Chonghua, Guangzhou, China. The symposium was sponsored by the National Nature Science Foundation of China and was organized jointly by Chinese Society of Oceanology and Limnology, Crustacean division of the China Zoological Society and the South China sea Institute of Ocenology, CAS. Over 320 Chinese and overseas Chinese participants from different countries and regions such as mainland China, the US, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hongkong attended this biennial big event on crustacean aquaculture.

  Leaders and scientists of relevant departments of the co-organizing units- South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences; Guangdong Provincial Oceanic and Fishery Administration; Society of Oceanology and Limnology of Guangdong; Guangdong Hengxing Group Ltd.; Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and Guangdong Science and Technology Department. Deputy Director of the South China sea Institute of Ocenology, CAS, Huang Liangmin presided over the symposium. Executive Director of SCSIO, CAS, Zhang Si gave the welcome adress. Secretary of the communist party committee of the Guangzhou Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guo Jun, Vice-president of the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, Tang Shihua and Deputy Inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Oceanic and Fishery Administration, Wei Pingying attended the opening ceremony and gave congratulatory remarks.     .  

  Famous oceanic biologist of the Institute of Oceanology, CAS, academician of CAS, Liu Ruiyu gave a report entitled “healthy cultivation-the essence of the sustainable development of mariculture of China”. Other scientists such as Prof. Zhu Jiahao from CUHK, Prof. Chen Hongcheng from NTU, Director Xiang Jianhai from the Chinese Society of Oceanology and Limnology, Dr. Wang Yinqing from South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Dr. Hu Chaoqun from SCSIO, gave presentations in the symposium. Participants discussed broadly issues in relation to germ plasm resources、Molecular Biology and functional gene assay、Healthy cultivation and Disease Control、dietary and nutrition、Aquaculture ecology.  

  Over 160 papers and abstracts were received. There were 12 keynote speeches and over 80 presentations. Participants were chinese and overseas chinese scientists and entrepreneurs engaged in crustacean aquaculture from more than 50 national or international scientific research institutions and universities, and over 10 corporations. The symposium was of important significance to the sustainable development of Chinese artificial crustacean aquaculture, to the intercommunications among the Chinese and overseas Chinese scientists and entrepreneurs, and to the promotion of ocean sciences.
