An Important Review Written by Prof. Jun Wu (South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences) Was Published on Natural Product Reports.
Recently, a review with the title of ‘Natural products from semi-mangrove flora: source, chemistry and bioactivities’ Nat. Prod. Rep., 2009, DOI: 10.1039/b816245j., written by Prof. Jun Wu (Key Laboratory of marine Bio-resourses Sustainable utilization, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences), was published on the Natural Product Reports, an famous international review journal on natural products. This review summarized the source, chemistry and bioactivities of natural products from semi-mangrove species worldwide with literature coverage from 1955 to 2007. It gives a highlight to the future phytochemical research on semi-mangrove plant species. In 2008, another review with the title of ‘Natural products from true mangrove flora: source, chemistry and bioactivities’ Nat. Prod. Rep., 2008, 25(5), 955-981., written by the same group, was published on the same journal.
It is reported that semi-mangrove plants have 14 species all over the world and most of them distribute on the coast of southeast Asian. These plants are important sources for the discovery of novel small compounds possessing novel framework and have potent bioactivity. Since 2001, Prof. Jun Wu and his group have investigated the chemistry and bioactivity of mangrove plants, including Acanthus ilicifolius and Xylocarpus granatum, collected from Hainan Island, China. The representative publications are Phytochemistry, 2003, 63(4), 491-495; Organic Letters, 2004, 6(11), 1841-1844; and Chemistry-A European Journal, 2008, 14, 1129-1444.
