Prof. Vyacheslav B. Lobanov visited SCSIO
Invited by Prof. Danling Tang of Research Center of Remote Sensing on Marine Ecology & Environment (RSMEE), SCSIO, CAS, Prof. Vyacheslav B. Lobanov paid a one-week visit to the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences at the end of April. Prof. Lobanov is an expert in physical oceanography and satellite remote sensing. He is currently Deputy Director of V.I.Ili'ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute, Russia, and head of both the lab of physical oceanography and the marine sciences department.
During his visit, Prof. Lobanov gave two talks titled “Mesoscale Eddies in the Japan Sea and their biological implication” and “Circulation and ventilation of the Japan Sea interior”, and had a broad and heated discussion on the relevant questions with Prof. Chen Chuqun, Zhou Weidong, Du Yan, and over 30 young scientists and graduate students of the institute.
Deputy Director Wang Dongxiao and Prof. Danling Tang talked with Prof. Lobanov about the future cooperation between the two institutes. They formed some cooperation intentions.
Prof. Lobanov’s previous visit to the South China Sea Institute was during the Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference (PORSEC2008) hosted by the South China Sea Institute in the early December 2008. He was the co-chairman of the program committee and helped organize PORSEC2008.
