Dr. Danling Tang was elected Member of the AGU Council
Dr. Danling Tang, a senior research scientist of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has recently been elected as Member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Council, and was invited to participate in the AGU Council Meeting and Leadership Conference held in the AGU headquarters in Washington D.C., U.S.A. in June, 2010.
AGU, established in 1919, is a world-renowned international non-profit scientific association. It has over 58 thousand members from around 135 countries in the world. AGU has provided over 90 years of quality research in the Geosciences. The AGU Council is its top-level management formed by world-famous scientists and experts. Dr. Danling Tang is by far the only member of the Council who is from China.
AGU is a cross-disciplinary comprehensive international scientific association covering lots of subjects such as atmospheric sciences, ocean sciences, space research, and planet research, with an emphasis on earth sciences. It publishes many high-quality scientific journals and other technical publications, including Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR) and Geophysical Research Letters (GRL), and holds many international meetings such as Ocean Science Meeting, Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting. The AGU meetings attract thousands of scientists every year, providing a good platform for geoscientists to communicate and learn from one another.
Dr. Danling Tang is Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences’s Outstanding Oversea Talents Program and Hundred Talents Program. She is engaged in marine biological environment and remote sensing studies, has participated in many international collaborative research programs including a UNEP program, and served as a member of the organizing committee of many international scientific organizations. She is active in promoting international scientific cooperation.
