Dr.Danling Tang participated in the 22nd Pacific Congress on Marine Science and Technology
The 22nd Pacific Congress on Marine Science and Technology (PACON2010) was successfully held in University of Hawaii at Hilo from June 1st to 5th, 2010, jointly co-organized by Dr. Michael Crosby, Senior Vice President of Mote Marine Laboratory, Dr. DanLing Tang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, and Dr. Wei-Hsien Wang of the Taiwan National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium.
The theme of PACON 2010 was international partnerships in marine science and technology as vehicles for improving Pacific Rim relations and resource management. PACON 2010 included session topics ranging from climate change to marine debris, seaport engineering to coral reef ecology, marine fisheries management to sustainable energy production, and local community outreach to development of national and international policies related to the Pacific Ocean. PACON 2010 served as an effective mechanism for information exchange among diverse groups from government, industry, and academia.
Dr. Danling Tang has served as a member of PACON International’s Board of Directors for many years, and she is the only board member that is from China. Besides having been a co-organizer of PACON2010, Dr. Tang also served as a convener and chairman of session “Remote Sensing of Changing Oceans and Natural Hazards”, and gave an oral presentation entitled “Observations from Space: Marine Ecosystem and Environment Response to Typhoons/Hurricanes”. After the conference, Dr.Tang was invited to visit University of Hawaii by Prof. John C. Wiltshire, Chairman of Dept. of Ocean & Resources Engineering of University of Hawaii and Director of Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory.
PACON International is a world-renowned non-profit scientific organization dedicated to the sharing of scientific and technological information among the Pacific maritime nations, to provide information to all participating nations to promote the environmentally sound utilization of ocean resources, and to advance knowledge in the various disciplines. PACON holds annual conferences within the Pacific region.
