A Delegation of SCSIO Scientists Participated in the PORSEC2010
A delegation of 11 scientists of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS participated in the 10th Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference (PORSEC2010) which was successfully held from 18 to 23, October, 2010 in Keelung, Taiwan, themed “Connecting Regional Impacts to Global Environmental Change”. There were 10 sessions on global environment, 11 on regional responses and 2 special sessions for participants to communicate.
The SCSIO delegation submitted 16 abstracts, gave 8 oral presentations in 6 sessions, and 4 poster presentations. Doctoral student Jiujuan Wang was awarded the Poster Award of Excellence. The delegation presented their research advances on South China Sea circulation, dynamics, air-sea interaction, and phytoplankton’s response to typhoon and oil spill, and had a heated discussion on the above issues with other participants. Drs Danling Tang, Ping Shi, and Gang Pan served as conveners of two sessions of the conference. Dr. Danling Tang also served as Chairman of the invited speeches session, and was elected as President-elect of the PORSEC Association. In addition, Doctoral student Yongqiang Chen gained financial support from the conference to take part in the pre-conference tutorial training. Dr.Danling Tang and the other 10 scientists lectured in the tutorial training.
The previous conference – the 9th Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference (PORSEC2008) was held in Guangzhou, hosted by the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS, which greatly promoted marine remote sensing research and international cooperation.
