3rd International Symposium on the Indian Ocean and South China Sea Held in Guangzhou
The 3rd International Symposium on the Indian Ocean and South China Sea (IOSCS 2010) was held in the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO, CAS) on November 17-19, 2010.
The symposium was organized by SCSIO and the Key Laboratory of Tropical Marine Environmental Dynamics (LED), CAS. Its theme was “Advances in Climate Change and Environmental Research”.
Aimed to depict and discuss ocean issues related to the focused regions through posters and presentations, the symposium attracted over 100 attendees from 14 foreign countries including India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Prof. TANG Danling from SCSIO took the chair at the symposium.
The symposium consisted of several sessions on such topics as air-sea interaction and marine circulation, satellite remote sensing and ecology environmental monitoring, disastrous climate change and marine environment, evaluation of natural hazards and crisis management of typhoons, and monsoon, typhoon and marine ecological response. There also held a poster session to award certificates for the excellent posters. CAS academicianLI Chongyin delivered a keynote speech on issues relating to the ENSO, IOD and Combined P-I mode.
“The South China Sea and Indian Ocean International Symposium” series has been successfully held twice in Guangzhou in 2006 and 2008. And the next symposium will be held in India.
