Professor Danling Tang gave a keynote speech for the World Earth Day
The theme of the fortieth World Earth Day in 2011 is "Cherish the earth's resources, transform the development mode". Dr. Danling Tang was invited to the World Earth Day activity organized by Guangdong science center and U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou. She gave a keynote speech "Observations of Oceans from Space" in IMAX 3D giant screen theater of Guangdong science center in Guangzhou on April 22, 2011 (World Earth Day). Her speech includes four parts "Life of Oceans, Emotion of Oceans, Health of Oceans, The Oceans and us". This speech with lot of wonderful satellite images attracted a lot of attentions.
After the speech, Dr. Tang and Mr. Doug Woodring, the co-founder and Director of the "Starfish Plans" in Hong Kong, had very good discussions with more than 600 audiences, including professionals, students and environmentalist. Marine environmental protection and technology issues are also explored in the activity. This commemorative activities aims at promoting the World Earth Day, arousing people to care for earth, protecting the homeland consciousness, promoting resource development and environment protection, and then improving the coordinated development of the whole of earth environment.Dr. Danling Tang is a professor of State Key Laboratory of Oceanography in the Tropics, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She mainly researches in satellite remote sensing of marine ecology, and she pays attention to the global environment change and natural disasters.. Professor Tang enthusiastically concerns in science popularization too.
World Earth Day is a worldwide environmental protection activity. It’s launched by Gaylord Nelson and Dennis Hayes in 1970 in the United States. The 63rd Session of the United Nations designated the annual April 22 as "World Earth Day".
