Professor Lin Senjie from University of Connecticut visit SCSIO
Professor Lin Senjie from the University of Connecticut visited SCSIO and gave a speak title “Double-edged light energy harvesting strategy in marine phytoplankton: proton-pump rhodopsin in dinoflagellates” on April 27, 2011. Scientists and students from LMB(SCSIO) attend to the meeting and discussion.
Prof. Lin introduced that double-edged light energy harvesting strategy indinoflagellates. The talk mainly composed of five parts. First, different types of rhodopsin occur in marine algae. Second, dinoflagellates possess both sensory and H+-pump rhodopsins. Third, the function of dinoflagellate rhodopsins remains to be further characterized. Fourth, Rhodopsin is an important light harvesting and energy conversion mechanism in the marine ecosystem. Fifth, potentially rhodopsin can be incorporated into algae to enhance growth rate and oil production in algal biofuel endeavor.
At the end of meeting, effective communications were represented between Prof. Lin and the members of LMB
