A Spanish scholar finish her visiting in SCSIO, CAS
Dr Patricia Quintas is a researcher of the Institute of Marine Research belonging to the Spanish National Research Council (IIM-CSIC in Vigo, Spain), which is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe, and she has studied the seahorses for many years and her research in this area has been most impressive by the world seahorse research and conservation. Seahorse conservation through aquaculture has been a hot topic for research throughout the world.
It is certain that the collaborative research on seahorse will greatly help the progress of developing seahorse aquaculture industry and biology to sustain the medicinal and ornamental trade. Invited by Dr Qiang Lin, who mainly focuses on the aquaculture, biology and conservation (ABC) study of seahorse in the Laboratory of Marine Bio-resource Sustainable Utilization(LMB)in SCSIO, Dr Patricia Quintas visited SCSIO from 1th February to 31th May of 2011.During 4-month cooperative study by Dr Qiang Lin and Dr Patricia Quintas, they had been working on understanding of aquaculture, behaviour ecology, and chemical ecology of Chinese seahorse species.
Dr Patricia Quintas’ visitingeffectively strengthened the cooperation of seahorse study between SCSIO and IIM in the future. This visiting research cooperation issponsored with a specific grant of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain for Spanish researchers, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (30901109), and the Innovation Project of Young Scientists of Chinese Academy of Sciences (KZCX2-EW-QN206).
