Ms. Nancy Pham visits to SCSIO, CAS
Under the support of East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI), Ms. Nancy paid a visit to the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS in August , 2012.
Ms. Nancy is the site manger of the Vero Beach marine lab. of Florida Institute of Technology. She has a wide interest of seahorse species between the Chinese and American local populations. Becoming involved in Dr. Qiang Lin’s on-going research in seahorse conservation in China, Nancy was invited to join the team to broaden her skills as a marine biologist by blending the knowledge of seahorse biology with conservation genetics.
Dr. Junda Lin, the professor of Florida Institute of technology, and Dr. Qiang Lin have a long history of seahorse research collaborations and have published several high impacted publications. Nancy’s works contributed to their collaboration by publishing the findings of the proposed research and delivering oral presentations at some international conferences. It is certain that the collaborative research on seahorse will greatly help the progress of developing seahorse aquaculture industry and biology to sustain the medicinal and ornamental trade, as well as the seahorses conservation along in the world.
During the visiting, Dr. Emily Yaung Ashworth, who is the director of Beijing office of National Science Foundation, U.S. (http://www.nsf.gov), came to Guangzhou and share the experience with the visitor from U.S. (Bottom picture) and scientists from SCSIO, CAS. The whole the research communication was sponsored by the National Science Foundation, U.S., Ministry of Science and Technology, P.R.
