Dr. Sylvia Earle Visit SCSIO and Give Talks on “Making Peace with nature”

  On October 16, 2012, Dr Sylvia Earle, an oceanographer, aquanaut, National Geographic explore-in residence, author, and lecturer with experience as a field research scientist, visited SCSIO and gave an impressive presentation on “Making peace with Nature”, under the invitation of Professor Hui Huang, the head of National Experiment Station of Tropical Marine Biology, Sanya, CAS, key Laboratory of Marine Bio-resources Sustainable Utilization (LMB).

  During the visiting, Dr. Sylvia Earle gave an insightful talk entitled “making peace with nature”, presenting their research and perspectives. Her talks focused on making a difference in the ocean’s future and our own, pointing out that we had the capacity to preserve the living ocean and save coral reefs, sharks, bluefin tuna, squids and millions of other species using the modern knowledge and skills. Dr Sylvia Earle also showed us the world’s oceans: from the Arctic to the Antarctic, from California to the Galapagos and down to the South China Sea by photo and video images. In the end, Dr Sylvia Earle insisted that it was necessity to protect the wild ocean in ways that will restore its health and in so doing, secure hope for humankind.
