Professor Yunjiang Feng from Eskitis Institute, Griffith University visits SCSIO

On Oct. 26, 2012, Prof. Yunjiang Feng from Eskitis Institute, Griffith University in Australia, visited SCSIO and delivered a wonderful speech entitled "Natural Product Drug Discovery", under the invitation of CAS key Laboratory of Marine Bio-resources Sustainable Utilization (LMB). Prof. Qiwei Qin hosted the visit. Prof. Changsheng Zhang, Prof. Dejun Dong, Prof. Yonghong Liu and other 50 faculties and students attended the speech.

Prof. Yunjiang Feng is principally engaged in the separation and structure elucidation of bioactive natural products in marine plants and marine microorganisms, structural modification and optimization of the lead compounds and chemical biology research of active ingredients in herbal medicine. In the presentation, Prof. Feng vividly introduced the high-throughput and high content methods she established to screen cellular and molecular drug targets, described the biological natural product library in detail, which includes 45,000 species sample and 18,000 natural extracts, and reported the isolation and identification of the main component of some natural products in the library. Meanwhile, Prof. Yunjiang Feng exchanged with participants on the five principles of natural product screening and high content screening methods. After that, another professor accompanied from Griffith University gave a lecture entitled "the G3BP gene: exploring biological functions as a therapeutic target ".

The visit of Prof. Feng will help further promote exchange and cooperation between SCSIO and Griffith University in the field of natural products.
