Professor Dr. Danling Tang of SCSIO received international “OCEAN SERVICE AWARDS”

The PACON (Pacific Congress on Marine Science and Technology) 2007 was held in Hawaii on June 24 to 27, 2007. Professor Dr. Danling Tang of South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) received “OCEAN SERVICE AWARDS” at the congress.

PACON, established in 1982, is a world well-known scientific organization dedicated to the sharing of scientific and technological information among the Pacific maritime nations. PACON International“OCEAN SERVICE AWARDS” is to give individuals in recognition of their contributions to the organization or to marine science and technology in general. This year, the award is given to two individuals, Professor Dr. Danling Tang of SCSIO and Dr. Ki Dai Yum of KORDI (Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute), with the deepest appreciation for services rendered toward a healthy Ocean Environment.

Dr. Danling Tang was invited to participate in PACON2007 and receive “OCEAN SERVICE AWARDS”. In the congress, Prof. Tang also invited all the participators to join the PORSEC 2008 (http://www.scsio.ac.cn/porsec2008.htm, http://lingzis.51.net/workshops/GZ2008.htm), which will be held in Guangzhou on behalf of SCSIO.

Dr. Danling Tang devotes herself to ocean sciences. She has been working in many countries such as U.S and Japan for many years. In 2004, she returned to China and received the “100 Talents Program” from Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, she is a leading professor of “Remote Sensing and Marine Ecology/Environment Group”(RSMEE) (http://lingzis.51.net/reseachgroups.htm) of SCSIO, CAS. Because of her contributions to UNEP, she received International Environmental Price - Zayed Award Diploma in 2006.

Nowadays, with China's fast-speed development and modernization, the society strongly requires outstanding scientists such as Prof. Tang. Her effort is absolutely a stimulation of China's academic development and an excellent model for youngsters.
